Advisory Board Member: Stephan
Chambers
Stephan Chambers is Director of the MBA and Executive MBA degree programmes at the Saïd Business School and Chairman of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, which he helped to found. His expertise is in all aspects of entrepreneurship, especially social entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial finance, and venture capital. His interest is in market-like solutions to large-scale social problems such as poverty, pollution, injustice, food-security, and climate change. He is non-executive chairman of IWA Publishing and sits on the advisory board of Princeton University Press. Between 1984 and 2000, he worked with Blackwell Publishers as commissioning editor, new business development director, editorial director, acting chief executive of Blackwell's US company, chairman of the joint venture company NCC Blackwell, and a member of the publishing company's main board.
Advisory Board Member: Suzanne
Heywood
Suzanne Heywood is Partner in McKinsey & Company’s London Office. Suzanne has worked extensively with energy and consumer sector companies and has considerable organisational expertise. Prior to joining McKinsey, Suzanne worked as a civil servant in H.M.Treasury including helping to conduct a fundamental review of the Treasury, working on the Government’s privatisation programme and acting as Private Secretary to the Financial Secretary. After a childhood spent sailing around the world on a boat, she was educated at Oxford and then at Cambridge.
Tom
Rippin
After some years of working in cancer research, Tom wanted to work in the social sector. Dubious of the training, development and career opportunities he would be able to access there, he decided instead to go into management consulting with McKinsey & Company. After five years, he did eventually transition into the social sector, first as an advisor on private sector matters to the CEO of Comic Relief and then at (RED), the business founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver to help eliminate AIDS in Africa, where he was the Managing Director for Europe and the Director of Business Development for (RED) International. As well as running On Purpose, Tom is the Chairman of Spice, www.justaddspice.org.
Advisory Board Member: Niraj
Varia
Niraj has been involved in a range of work int he social sector, focusing on African development and social enterprise. Most recently, he has been involved in the development of an SME Fund for East Africa, is part of the FranchisingWorks team that is using franchising to generate employment in England and worked with TechnoServe to support small holder farmers in Southern Africa. Originally from Kenya, he has also worked as an actuary and a management consultant with McKinsey & Co.
Sandra
Ng
Sandra is a regular volunteer with On Purpose; after several years at McKinsey & Company as a Knowledge Specialist in the Consumer Practice she transitioned into the social sector and now works at The Challenge. Prior to McKinsey she spent some years in Hong Kong working with packaged goods companies in marketing and sales support roles.
